The sash is an interior frame that can move upwards and downwards in windows that are open. This article will teach you how to do simple sash repairs.

Weather Stripping

Wooden window sashes can add a classic look to your home. They are also sturdy and last for a long time provided they are properly maintained. They can, however, be damaged or degraded over time due to exposure and normal wear and tear. Cut the cord or chain and secure it as in Step 6 above. You can do this with a hammer, nails or screws. However, nails are less likely than screws to cause damage.

Unless you've bought a kit that replaces the old counterbalance system, it's best to keep the original weights for balancing in place. It's not expensive to buy them from a salvage store and they'll be easy to install once you've got the sash open.
